A QUOTATION INVENTED IN TREDEGAR HOUSE
The above misprinted quotation . should start " Why even bother ......." It concerns something claimed as written by Aldous Huxley about Evan Morgan, later Lord Tredegar of Tredegar House, Newport.
Evan Morgan met Aldous Huxley ( pictured alongside here ) at Garsington Manor near Oxford during the Great War. Both men were unfit to serve in the military services, Evan on account of a lung condition, Huxley because of his poor eyesight.
Huxley became a notable writer with the classic tale " Brave New World" being his best known work.
In his first novel " Crome Yellow" Huxley used Evan as the basis of the character Ivor Lombard.
The two men became friends, Huxley was fond of Evan's mother, Lady Katharine Carnegie, whose greatest wish was that Huxley prove an influence for good and stability on Evan. She was even prepared to pay Huxley to take Evan abroad to help mend her son's wayward ways, or at least keep him out of trouble.
The quotation above- from a new book that can be found on the Internet on a blog is attributed to Huxley. It should read :
" Why even bother to make up characters for one's books when real people like Evan Morgan exist?"
Despite enquiries including that of a Huxley expert in the USA who has previously supplied to me letters from Evan Morgan to Aldous Huxley the quote is unknown to him. It looks like a manufactured, rogue piece of work by the history fraudsters purely for bad sport that has no place in Evan or Huxley's timeline or any biography.
In other words it's A LIE, manufactured in Tredegar House.
